A 35-year-old driver has been remanded into custody by the Amasaman Circuit Court over allegations of defiling a 12-year-old girl.

The accused, Philip Asare, pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before the court.

The presiding judge, Susanna Nyakotey, ordered that he be held in custody and return to court on May 7, 2026.

Prosecutor Nana Yaa Ofori Appau told the court that the complainant is the victim’s grandmother, who lives in Manhean.

According to the prosecution, the accused is a neighbour who allegedly started making advances toward the girl in January 2026.

The court heard that on March 4, 2026, at about 8:00 pm, the accused allegedly lured the girl into his room.

The grandmother, who had been searching for the child, later saw her leaving the accused’s porch around 9:00 pm.

The victim later informed her grandmother about the incident, which led to a formal complaint at the Amasaman Police Station.

Police issued a medical form for the girl to undergo examination and receive treatment.

After investigations, authorities arrested and charged the accused, who has now been remanded pending the next hearing.
