Lamptey eyes fresh start after injury-hit Fiorentina spell

Tariq Lamptey has taken a significant step towards reviving his career after returning to training following a lengthy recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The 25-year-old defender is currently a free agent after parting ways with Italian Serie A side Fiorentina, bringing an early end to a spell that was heavily disrupted by injury and limited playing opportunities.

Lamptey joined Fiorentina in 2025 on a three-year contract after leaving English football, where he had previously represented Chelsea and Brighton & Hove Albion.

However, his move to Italy proved challenging. The Ghana international struggled to establish himself in the first team and made only two appearances for the club, accumulating just 25 minutes of action before suffering the injury that sidelined him for an extended period.

Having now completed his rehabilitation, Lamptey has resumed training and is focused on securing a new club ahead of the 2026/27 season.

His return to full fitness comes as Ghana prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Despite his recovery, Lamptey was not included in Carlos Queiroz’s final 26-man Black Stars squad for the tournament.

The defender will now be hoping that a successful return to club football can help him rebuild momentum and strengthen his prospects of returning to the national team setup in the future.
