The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has initiated plans for a nationwide demonstration, calling on the government to take immediate action on teacher recruitment and postings.
The protest, which is expected to mobilise trainees from all 49 Colleges of Education across the country, aims to pressure authorities to grant financial clearance for the recruitment of additional trained teachers and to reinstate the policy of automatic postings.
According to TTAG, the recent recruitment of 7,000 teachers falls short of addressing the increasing backlog of trained graduates who remain unemployed despite completing their education.
The association argues that a significant number of qualified teachers continue to face uncertainty, even as they stand ready to contribute to the country’s education system.
TTAG is therefore urging the government to expedite measures to expand recruitment and to fulfil its commitment to restoring automatic postings—a system that previously ensured a seamless transition from training into employment.
The planned demonstration is expected to spotlight the challenges confronting newly trained teachers while intensifying calls on policymakers to prioritise the issue as part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s education sector.
