The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has called for an urgent meeting with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) over widespread media reports and public complaints alleging rapid depletion of prepaid electricity units.

The concerns come in the wake of the latest tariff changes introduced under the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO). Many consumers across the country have taken to the media to question why purchased prepaid units appear to be depleting faster than usual.

In response, the Commission announced that it has invited ECG’s Managing Director to attend a meeting scheduled for Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 12:00 noon at the PURC GNAT Office in Accra to address the issue.

The Managing Director has been instructed to attend with key officials from the Technical, Commercial, ICT, and Customer Service departments to ensure a thorough and authoritative discussion.

According to the Commission, the meeting will focus on a detailed technical briefing on how the revised tariff has been integrated into the prepaid vending and metering systems. ECG is also expected to present a report on any changes made to system parameters, configurations, or conversion logic in relation to the MYTO adjustment, as well as provide data on vending trends and meter update procedures.

Additionally, discussions will cover the volume and nature of customer complaints, steps taken so far to resolve them, and any immediate technical or communication measures needed to maintain consumer confidence and ensure regulatory compliance.
