In a recent clarification, the elder brother of gospel musician Yaw Sarpong has set the record straight regarding the artist’s marital status, revealing that Yaw Sarpong has been divorced for over 16 years and is currently not married.

Speaking to the media, the family member expressed concern over rumors and misinformation circulating about the gospel icon’s personal life. “Yaw Sarpong has no wife. He has been divorced for over 16 years,” the elder brother stated, emphasizing the importance of respecting the singer’s privacy.

Yaw Sarpong, renowned for his contributions to Ghanaian gospel music, has largely kept his private life away from the public eye. The clarification comes after speculation and inaccurate reports appeared online regarding his marital status.

Yaw Sarpong, the celebrated founder and lead figure of the Asomafo Gospel Band, died on Tuesday, 20 January 2026, aged 66. Reports indicate that he passed away at Emena Hospital in Kumasi, where he had been undergoing medical treatment for several weeks.

The family member also appealed to the public and media houses to refrain from spreading unverified information about the singer, noting that such rumors can be hurtful and distracting, especially for someone devoted to ministry and music.

Fans of Yaw Sarpong have expressed relief at the clarification, urging respect for his personal life and commending the elder brother for addressing the matter directly.

This statement serves as a reminder of the importance of separating public personas from private lives, particularly for public figures in the entertainment and religious spheres.
