Snapchat has announced a major change to its Memories feature, confirming through the Snap Newsroom that unlimited free storage will be restricted to 5GB. Users who exceed this limit will now need to pay for additional cloud storage.
The company explained that the move is designed to make the service more sustainable while providing flexible options for users. New subscription tiers will include 100GB, 250GB (for Snapchat+ users), and up to 5TB for premium subscribers.
To ease the transition, Snap says there will be a 12-month grace period for existing users whose Memories already exceed the free 5GB limit. Within this period, users can either upgrade, download their content, or manage their saved Snaps. After that window, content beyond the free limit may be deleted.
Pricing details for the storage plans are expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.
