Broadcaster and host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has described Communications Minister Sam George’s handling of the recent DStv impasse as a “misstep” but not one that warrants his dismissal.
Speaking on his show, Adom-Otchere acknowledged that the minister’s approach in negotiating subscription fee reductions with MultiChoice Ghana could have been managed better but insisted it does not amount to incompetence or misconduct.
The comment comes amid growing calls from sections of the Minority in Parliament for Sam George’s removal from office, following the government’s failed attempt to secure a 30% reduction in DStv subscription fees.
MultiChoice Ghana had resisted the directive, citing operational costs, and instead introduced customer upgrade offers. Critics accused the minister of backtracking and misrepresenting his earlier position, while others have defended him for pursuing consumer interests.
Adom-Otchere, however, urged calm, stressing that while the issue was mishandled, it should not be politicized or used as grounds for dismissal.
