Raphael Mensah, the individual declared wanted by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for his alleged role in a high-profile corruption case, has returned to Ghana and voluntarily surrendered to the authorities.
According to a statement issued by the OSP, Mensah arrived at Kotoka International Airport late Wednesday evening and reported directly to the OSP headquarters in Accra, accompanied by his legal counsel. His return follows weeks of speculation about his whereabouts after being declared wanted in connection with alleged acts of corruption and corruption-related offences.
The OSP, in June, issued a public notice calling for information on Mensah’s location after he failed to respond to repeated summons. The charges, though yet to be formally detailed in court, are believed to stem from his alleged involvement in procurement irregularities and abuse of office during his tenure at a key public institution.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday morning, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng confirmed that Mensah was in custody and would be processed according to the law. “We commend Mr. Mensah for taking the responsible step of submitting himself to our office. The rule of law will take its course,” he said.
The OSP assured the public of its continued commitment to fighting corruption, noting that the case will proceed swiftly and fairly.
Mensah’s legal team, meanwhile, stated that their client maintains his innocence and is ready to cooperate fully with investigators.
He is expected to appear before the High Court (Criminal Division) in the coming days.
