Ghanaian businessman Ibrahim Mahama has initiated plans to convert his private jet into a fully equipped air ambulance to support public healthcare services in the country.
The aircraft departed Ghana on April 3, 2026, to undergo specialized modifications abroad. Once completed, it will be fitted with advanced life-support systems and modern medical equipment, enabling it to respond swiftly to emergencies and transport critically ill patients requiring urgent care.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening Ghana’s emergency medical response by providing faster and more efficient medical evacuation, particularly in situations where road ambulances may face delays due to heavy traffic or challenges reaching remote areas. By offering rapid air transport, the service is expected to significantly improve access to critical care and potentially save lives.
Although details regarding the timeline for the jet’s return and operational readiness have not yet been disclosed, the development has been widely welcomed by the public. Many see it as a major step toward enhancing the country’s healthcare infrastructure and addressing gaps in emergency medical services, especially in underserved regions.
