Accra, Ghana Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, and Hon. Mohammed Adams Sukparu, the Deputy Minister for Communications and Digital Technology, are reportedly in stable condition following a road traffic accident involving their official convoy on the Bolgatanga–Tumu Road on Thursday, February 12, 2026.
According to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Education and signed by Press Secretary Hashmin Mohammed, the two senior government officials were travelling with their respective teams to the Upper West Region to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education when the crash occurred.
The circumstances surrounding the collision have not yet been disclosed, and details such as the number of vehicles involved, the cause of the crash, or whether other road users were affected remain unknown. However, the statement assured the public that all occupants of the convoy sustained no life-threatening injuries and are currently receiving necessary medical care.
Officials emphasised that both ministers and their team members are stable and under medical observation, dispelling any speculation about severe injuries. The Ministry also expressed gratitude to emergency responders, health professionals, and members of the public who swiftly assisted at the scene following the incident.
The accident briefly disrupted the itinerary of the officials, who were en route northwards for their official duties. Authorities indicated that further updates will be communicated as necessary.
Road safety remains a significant concern in Ghana, with thousands of lives lost annually to traffic crashes, underscoring the risks associated with long-distance travel on major highways such as the Bolgatanga–Tumu route.
For now, the public and stakeholders await more information as investigations continue and the ministers complete their recovery.
