UK High Commissioner expressed confidence that, with the assistance of civil society and political actors, Ghana would conduct another peaceful democratic process.
The “massive uncontrolled corruption” lamented by the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference (GCBC)
a few days ago has piqued the interest of the UK High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson,
who claims the canker is holding the country back big time. Ghana, she claims, would make significant progress if it weren’t for corruption.
which the GCBC claims has become legalized and is suffocating the country. According to Citinewsroom.com, Thompson said this and other things during a media
interaction at her residence during King Charles III’s 75th birthday celebration.
“One of the things holding Ghana back is corruption.”It is a problem not only in Ghana, but
in many other countries.
“If all of the money that comes into Ghana was used for its intended purpose, Ghana would be making faster progress,” she says, according to the news website.
According to her, the public perception of high corruption paints Ghana in a negative light, pushing it up the corruption index and highlighting the need to address it.
Thompson also discussed the 2024 general elections, pledging the UK’s support to ensure a peaceful, transparent, free, and fair process.
“We’ve been collaborating with the Electoral Commission for quite some time.” We’re also working to combat misinformation, which has unfortunately emerged in many elections recently,” she revealed.
