African central bank governors are calling for a major overhaul of the global debt system, warning that current frameworks are failing to address the continent’s mounting economic pressures. Speaking at the African Consultative Group meeting hosted by the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr Johnson Asiama, urged urgent reforms to better support vulnerable economies. He emphasised the need for a more effective and responsive debt architecture, including a fit-for-purpose Low Income Country Debt Sustainability Framework and faster, more tailored implementation of the IMF’s Three Pillar Approach for countries already in or at…
The Government Statistician, Dr Alhassan Iddrisu, has stressed that a justice system without reliable data cannot effectively assess or manage its own performance. Speaking after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ghana Statistical Service and the Judicial Service of Ghana, he described the agreement as a major step toward strengthening data-driven governance in the country. According to him, integrating the judiciary into Ghana’s national data coordination framework will significantly improve justice delivery. “With better administrative data from the courts, we can track case backlogs with precision, improve how judicial resources are deployed, strengthen transparency, and build…

It is not unusual for US President Donald Trump to face criticism from Catholic leaders, particularly over his hardline immigration policies, which have long drawn condemnation from sections of the Church hierarchy. However, a more unusual and broader wave of criticism has emerged in recent days, following Trump’s public attack on Pope Leo and his sharing of an AI-generated image depicting himself in a Christ-like form. For months, tensions have existed between the Catholic hierarchy in the United States and more right-leaning lay Catholics who have generally supported Trump. But the latest backlash particularly over the Iran war and Trump’s…
Company executives across the tech industry are increasingly linking artificial intelligence adoption to workforce reductions, pointing to both efficiency gains from AI tools and the heavy cost of investing in AI infrastructure. Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, is among the firms reflecting this broader shift as companies reassess staffing levels while scaling up AI-driven operations. Industry leaders say the growing use of AI systems is reducing the need for employees in certain roles, while simultaneously driving massive spending on AI infrastructure that is forcing companies to cut costs elsewhere, including headcount. The trend comes as technology firms commit…

FIFA High-Performance Specialist Faisal Chibsah has expressed confidence that newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz will restore discipline and structure to the national team, which he believes had been lacking under the previous management. The Ghana Football Association parted ways with Otto Addo following a string of four consecutive defeats in international friendlies, just months before the World Cup. Queiroz, the experienced Portuguese tactician, has since been appointed on a four-month contract to lead the team through the tournament. Queiroz brings a wealth of international experience, having previously worked as assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United…
An Accra High Court has ruled that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) does not have independent constitutional authority to prosecute criminal cases, directing that all matters initiated by the anti-corruption body be referred to the Attorney-General’s Department. The ruling, delivered on Wednesday, has thrown ongoing OSP prosecutions into uncertainty, effectively placing several cases in abeyance pending further legal clarification. Presiding judge, Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyante, held that while the OSP is mandated to investigate corruption and corruption-related offences, it does not possess the constitutional power to independently initiate prosecutions. The court grounded its decision in Article 88…
The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Jinapor, has issued a strong warning to district offices of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), cautioning that continued poor performance and weak customer service could lead to a major organisational shake-up. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, April 14, the Minister expressed concern over what he described as unacceptable delays in responding to power outage complaints in some parts of the country. He noted that while ECG continues to make efforts in electricity distribution, several district offices are failing to meet expected standards of responsiveness. According to him, reports reaching his office…
