The Tema Regional Police Command has arrested a man suspected of transporting large quantities of narcotic substances following an operation along the Tema–Ada road.
The suspect, identified as Bismark Kpormeno, was apprehended on Sunday, May 31, 2026, by officers from the Tema Highway Patrol Unit after he allegedly attempted to evade arrest.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Affairs Unit, Kpormeno was driving a Hyundai Mighty II container truck when officers signalled him to stop. However, he allegedly failed to comply and sped off, prompting a pursuit by the police.
The chase ended at Bondase, where officers successfully intercepted the vehicle and arrested the suspect.
A search conducted on the truck uncovered twelve sacks and eighty parcels of compressed plant materials suspected to be narcotic drugs. The substances had reportedly been concealed inside the container and wrapped in sellotape.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspected narcotics were loaded at Kpeve in the Volta Region and were being transported to Ada.
Police said the suspect remains in custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations. The truck used in the operation, together with the seized exhibits, has been impounded for evidential purposes.
The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling drug trafficking and related criminal activities across the country.
The Command also appealed to the public to support law enforcement efforts by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities and movements that could aid investigations and crime prevention.
