The Ministry of Transport has launched investigations into the alleged misuse of GHS40 million that was released in 2024 for the rehabilitation of the Accra–Achimota–Nsawam railway line.
Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe said the ministry became aware of the issue through the Chief Executive of the Railway Development Authority and has since initiated measures to determine what happened to the funds.
Addressing journalists on Wednesday, the minister explained that the matter is currently under investigation and assured the public that the findings would be disclosed once the process is completed.
According to him, concerns were raised over reports that despite the release of GHS40 million for the rehabilitation project, the work was never carried out.
He stated that the issue dates back to 2024 and is now being thoroughly examined to establish the facts surrounding the matter.
Mr Nikpe emphasized that the ministry had already taken action and was awaiting the outcome of ongoing investigations.
He noted that the probe would establish whether the funds were misapplied, mismanaged, or diverted and determine who may be held responsible if any wrongdoing is discovered.
The minister added that the government remains committed to uncovering the truth and ensuring accountability once the investigation process is concluded.
