Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, has stated that the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has two branches, one he calls “fake” and the other “real.”
According to him, he no longer considers himself part of the “fake” NPP.
Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on January 12, 2026, Professor Frimpong Boateng stated that the party’s current approach to handling affairs is tantamount to corruption.
He cited the last NPP presidential primaries, which elected a flagbearer to lead the party in the 2024 general elections, as an example. He made several allegations about the process, which he claims were inappropriate.
“The present NPP is not the NPP I used to know. It’s fake. What I see now is not the party I knew,” he said.
When asked if he still considers himself part of the party, he responded, “Not the fake one. The real one is there, it’s virtual, and the members are there in the background.
He further explained, “Look at how they elected their last flag bearer. They twisted the arms of the weak, bribed delegates, and intimidated others to secure the flag bearer. This was for the 2024 election. This is the beginning of corruption, and it should not be allowed in any serious situation or in any serious party.
“And there were issues we lost the elections badly, and we did not address the problems that led to the losses.”
“The present NPP is not the real NPP. It is fake, and I do not consider myself part of it,” says Prof. Frimpong Boateng, former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation.
