The Western Central Regional Police Command has announced the successful rescue of a 15-year-old Nigerian girl who was allegedly trafficked to Ghana for sexual exploitation.

The rescue was carried out by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVSU) in Tarkwa following a report made by the victim’s father, Ogbonno Onuigbo. Onuigbo reported his daughter missing in October 2025 and later contacted the victim on October 24, 2025, who disclosed that she had been trafficked and abused in Ghana.

Following the report, police on Monday, November 4, 2025, arrested 25-year-old Joy Ogbonna at Aboso, near Tarkwa.

Police investigations revealed that a suspect, identified as Golden Blessing, who is currently on the run, allegedly lured the victim from Enugu to Lagos, Nigeria, under the guise of offering her a cleaning job. Golden Blessing then reportedly handed the victim over to Joy Ogbonna, who transported her to Tarkwa. Upon arrival, the suspect confined the victim in a room, forced her into sex work, and collected the proceeds.

The victim was able to contact her father with the help of a passerby, which ultimately led to her rescue. A medical report confirmed the victim was five weeks pregnant at the time of the rescue.

The suspect, Joy Ogbonna, is currently in police custody and will be arraigned before court soon. The Western Central Regional Police Command confirmed that efforts are ongoing to arrest the accomplice, Golden Blessing, who is believed to be in Nigeria.

Beatrice Turkson, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Head of the Public Affairs Unit/WCR, commended the public for their support and timely intervention and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fighting human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons from all forms of exploitation.
