Nigerian Grammy-winning musician Burna Boy has opened up about his spiritual journey, revealing that his quest for truth led him to convert from Christianity to Islam.
In a recent conversation with content creator PlaqueBoyMax, the Afro-fusion star said that his continuous search for understanding about religion and faith has left him even more uncertain.
“Growing up, I was a Christian and then I converted to Islam. It’s like I’ve studied it all, but I’m still out here trying to find out what is really going on, you know? The more I research, the more confused I get,” he said.
He explained that his shift was not about rejecting one religion for another but about exploring spirituality beyond traditional boundaries. According to him, the more he learns, the more questions he develops about life, purpose, and faith.
Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, was raised in a Christian family in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. His mother, Bose Ogulu, is well known as his manager and a devout Christian, while his grandmother once served as a translator for the late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti.
Over the years, Burna Boy has often referenced faith, destiny, and divine purpose in his music, but this is one of the few times he has publicly discussed his personal beliefs in detail.
