Dismas Mutai, a Kenyan, lost more than $21,663 (KSh 2.8 million) on an online betting platform that was supposed to be used for his university studies abroad.
Mutai, who had received a scholarship to pursue a Master of Science in International Project Management at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in London, admitted that he lost money betting on Aviator.
Now suffering from depression, he is seeking financial assistance and expressing deep regret for his actions.
He shared his story, as reported by the well-known Kenyan news website Tuko News.
“I am not okay, and I will no longer pretend to be okay. I have fallen into a disastrous trap, one that I had not anticipated in my life. Depression is slowly killing me. You must have noticed an unusual change in my behavior. The aviator flew away with over KSh 2.8 million in people’s money.”
Mukai apologizes to the family.
Mutai also begged his mother and family for forgiveness for betraying their trust in an emotional plea.
Please pardon me, Mom and the whole family. I know how much you trusted me. Like everyone else, I have weaknesses, and this has turned into my biggest one.
Mutai remains hopeful for another chance despite his setback.
