UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has spoken directly with former U.S. President Donald Trump following recent U.S. military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, according to a statement from Downing Street.

The phone call comes just days after American forces launched attacks on sites in Iran believed to be linked to its nuclear program a move that has triggered global concern and rising tensions across the Middle East.

While Starmer has not publicly commented in detail about the conversation, officials say the two leaders discussed the risks of further conflict and the need for calm.

“Sir Keir made clear that avoiding a wider war is the top priority,” a Downing Street spokesperson said. “He stressed the importance of working together with allies to promote peace and prevent further escalation.”

Donald Trump, who is running again for the U.S. presidency, has been vocal in supporting the strikes, claiming they are necessary to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Iran, however, denies any such intentions and has promised to defend itself if provoked again.

The UK has traditionally been a close ally of the U.S., but Sir Keir is under pressure to ensure that Britain does not get dragged into another Middle Eastern conflict. Many citizens and lawmakers are urging a diplomatic approach instead of military involvement.

This conversation between Starmer and Trump highlights how serious the situation has become with world leaders scrambling to contain the fallout and avoid a larger war.
