A soldier identified as Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams of the Ghana Air Force has been arrested by Military Police after a video showing him assaulting a woman and a pharmacist at Burma Camp in Accra went viral.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday, October 29, inside a pharmacy located within the military base. In the video, the soldier is seen slapping a pharmacist before turning on a woman who attempted to record the altercation, striking her several times on the head.
In a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director of Public Relations, the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) said WO1 Williams, who is attached to the Office of the Chief of Staff, has been taken into custody and is assisting with investigations.
“The Ghana Armed Forces condemns the act and wishes to assure the public that such unprofessional conduct will not be tolerated,” the statement said.
The statement added that the victims have received medical care and are cooperating with investigators. The GAF emphasized its commitment to discipline and professionalism, assuring that appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken once investigations are complete.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with many calling for stronger accountability within the military.
