Australian singer-songwriter Sia is facing a costly divorce battle as her estranged husband, Dan Bernard, has requested more than $250,000 per month in spousal support.
Court filings show that Bernard, a film producer and entrepreneur, is seeking US$250,856 monthly in support, along with $300,000 in legal fees and $200,000 for forensic accounting costs.
Sia and Bernard got married in May 2023 during a private ceremony in Portofino, Italy, at the home of fashion designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The couple share an 18-month-old child, named Somersault Wonder.
In his filing, Bernard claimed he has “no income, no property, and very little funds in my bank account.” He further alleged that he became unemployed in April after Sia’s company stopped supporting their joint venture, Modern Medicine.
The singer, however, has asked the court to terminate any claims for spousal support, arguing that Bernard’s demands are excessive. She is also seeking full legal and physical custody of their child.
Bernard maintains that his request is to “level the playing field,” citing Sia’s much greater financial means.
The case is being heard in a Los Angeles court, where proceedings are expected to continue in the coming weeks
