President Mahama and Minister Sam George’s recent meeting with Nigerian billionaire and business magnate Dr. Mike Adenuga signals a strong push towards making data more affordable and accessible in Ghana. The high-level discussion, held on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, is seen as a strategic move to address ongoing concerns voiced by Ghanaians regarding expensive data packages, inconsistent network coverage, and the need for improved digital infrastructure.

President John Dramani Mahama, in an official announcement, revealed that he had met with Dr. Adenuga, a man he described as a “legendary figure in West Africa’s telecommunications, oil, and gas sectors.” Known for founding Globacom, one of Africa’s largest telecom companies, Adenuga brings with him decades of experience and extensive resources that could help reshape Ghana’s telecommunications sector.

This meeting has sparked widespread enthusiasm, with many citizens and analysts interpreting it as a sign of renewed commitment to solving long-standing connectivity issues in the country. Minister Sam George’s involvement further emphasizes the government’s focus on digital transformation and policy-driven partnerships.

In addition to the official statements, social media buzzed with excitement. An Instagram post on June 10, 2025, captured the moment between the two prominent figures, describing it as a “meeting of icons.” President Mahama also took to Facebook to express his appreciation, stating that reconnecting with Dr. Adenuga was a meaningful moment and referring to him as a true icon in the telecommunications and oil and gas industries across West Africa.

This development may mark the beginning of a transformative journey for Ghana’s data economy and a new era of Ghana-Nigeria economic collaboration.
