NPP Rejects EC’s Decision to Rerun Ablekuma North Election

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has strongly opposed the Electoral Commission’s (EC) directive to conduct a parliamentary rerun in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Kodua insisted that the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Akua Afriyie, legitimately won the 2024 election and accused the EC of undermining the will of the people.

“We reject this decision in its entirety. The results declared clearly gave Akua Afriyie a clean victory. Any attempt to overturn that through selective reruns is unacceptable,” Kodua said.

The EC announced the rerun following reports of irregularities and procedural breaches at the affected polling stations. However, the NPP contends that the issues raised do not materially affect the overall outcome and that the margin of victory remains beyond dispute.

Kodua called on the EC to respect the verdict of voters and warned that the party would resist any move that appears politically motivated.

“We are prepared to defend this mandate through every legal and democratic means. The people of Ablekuma North spoke clearly, and their voice must not be silenced,” he added.

The NPP’s stance has intensified tensions surrounding the constituency’s results. Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has yet to respond to the party’s claims. Observers expect further developments in the coming days as legal and political challenges unfold.
