Popular Ghanaian comedian and actor Richard Kweku Asante, widely known as Kalybos, has disclosed that he was personally offered a job at the National Lottery Authority (NLA) by none other than Sammy Awuku, the former Director-General of the NLA and current Member of Parliament for Akuapem North.
In a recent interview, Kalybos revealed that the opportunity came at a turning point in his career. According to him, the offer wasn’t the result of a formal application process but a direct gesture from Awuku, who had been following his work closely.
“I was shocked when I got the call,” Kalybos said. “Sammy Awuku himself reached out and said he believed I could bring some creative energy to the NLA brand as a presenter. It was a huge vote of confidence.”
While the exact nature of his role wasn’t detailed, Kalybos suggested it involved media and public engagement, areas in which his comedic background and public appeal were clear assets.
The actor, known for his role in the popular “Boys Kasa” series, also used the platform to thank Awuku for believing in his potential beyond comedy and film. “It meant a lot that someone in leadership saw value in my skills in a different space,” he added.
The revelation highlights the growing intersection between entertainment and public service in Ghana, where creatives are increasingly being tapped for roles in governance, communication, and national branding.
Kalybos has since continued to build his brand in both entertainment and corporate communication.
