Jada Smith believes the now-famous Oscars slap between Will Smith and Chris Rock saved her marriage. In a Daily Mail interview, Jada said that the event was a turning point in her life and made her realize she would never leave Will.
She referred to the incident’s aftermath as the “holy slap,” highlighting the fact that the contentious moment was followed by beneficial developments.
“That moment of sh*t hitting the fan is when you see where you are,” Jada Smith said, looking back on the incident. It took that slap for me to realize that I would never leave Will’s side, even after all those years of trying to decide if I would. If that hadn’t happened, who knows where our relationship would be now?
Jada Smith continued, highlighting the good things that came about following the incident and thanking everyone for coming to the ceremony even though she was on the verge of missing it. Her remarks come after she declared in a recent interview that she wanted to be with Will “forever.”
Will’s unexpected appearance at her book tour in October, when he acknowledged their relationship’s difficulties and called it “beautiful”—both brutal and beautiful—echoes this sentiment.
In their protracted and turbulent relationship, the couple has been transparent about its highs and lows.
