The Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin, has commended the upcoming Gomoa Easter Carnival, describing it as a strategic initiative to promote tourism and stimulate economic activity within the Gomoa enclave.
The event, spearheaded by the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, aims to deliver a vibrant blend of arts, culture, and entertainment during the Easter festivities, while showcasing the heritage and economic potential of the area.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr. Afenyo-Markin noted that the initiative would significantly benefit local businesses by attracting visitors and increasing commercial activity.
He drew parallels with the well-known Kwahu Easter celebrations, highlighting their impact on tourism and regional development, and described the Gomoa initiative as a similarly forward-thinking effort worthy of support.
According to him, efforts by MPs to promote their constituencies through such initiatives should be encouraged, as they help tell the unique stories of local communities while attracting both domestic and international tourists.
He emphasised the importance of strengthening domestic tourism, noting that initiatives like the Gomoa Easter Carnival provide opportunities for Ghanaians to explore and appreciate their own cultural heritage.
The four-day festival, scheduled from April 2 to April 5, 2026, will feature a wide range of activities, including musical performances, art exhibitions, food bazaars, masquerades, and cultural displays. A grand durbar of chiefs and street performances are also expected to highlight the traditions of the Gomoa people.
With a mix of established and emerging artists set to perform, the event is positioned as a major cultural attraction aimed at boosting tourism, empowering local enterprises, and placing Gomoa firmly on Ghanaโs tourism map.
