Assemblyman, also known as Teacher Obour, a teacher at Teberebie M/A Junior High School in Prestea, Western Region, was running for re-election in the Teberebie electoral area.

Manasseh Addison Sackey, 34, popularly known as Teacher Obour, drowned on his way to campaign for re-election four years after his predecessor died in the same way.

However, he reportedly drowned on Monday, December 4, while being ferried across a river connecting Aklika with five other passengers to another community in his electoral district across the river.

According to Citinewsroom.com, Manasseh’s opponent, a former assemblyman, suffered the same fate four years ago, two weeks before the elections.

Nana Esi Brew Monney, journalist with Prestea FM, told the news outlet that Manasseh’s campaign team members tried to stop him from going to campaign on that fateful day, but he insisted, claiming it was only short distance.

“His campaign team warned him not to go, but he insisted it was only stone’s throw away and

He could return right away.” He was wearing Wellington boots, as were the other five people on board.

The canoe capsized in the middle of the river.

Three others returned with news that Manasseh and the other gentleman had drowned.

search team was dispatched, only to discover the lifeless body of Manasseh Addison Sackey.

“This happened around 2:00 p.m., and the body was discovered around 6:00 p.m.,” she is quoted as saying.

“The area chief has declined to speak with us, and we have yet to hear from the municipal chief executive.”

Nana Esi Brew Monney added, “Some assembly members came to get firsthand information.” Manasseh’s

body was deposited at the Tarkwa municipal mortuary, but his family had yet to be informed of his death.
