Burglars have broken into the official residence of Ghana’s Ambassador to Nigeria, stealing valuables such as television sets, gas cylinders, and bags of rice. The incident occurred in Abuja and was first reported by Punch Nigeria.

Although the exact time of the burglary remains unclear, sources indicate that the residence was unoccupied during the break-in. The intruders reportedly escaped undetected, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of security around diplomatic homes.

Officials from the Ghana High Commission are now working with Nigerian police to investigate the incident and recover the stolen items. So far, no arrests have been made.

Under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, Nigeria is obligated to protect diplomatic premises. Therefore, this breach has sparked public concern and calls for stronger security measures.

The unusual mix of stolen items including food suggests either opportunistic theft or possible insider knowledge. Security analysts argue that the lack of immediate response points to deeper surveillance gaps.

In response, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed an ongoing investigation and pledged to boost patrols in diplomatic areas. “We’re treating this case with urgency,” said a police spokesperson.

Although Ghana and Nigeria maintain strong bilateral relations, the break-in highlights growing worries about the safety of foreign missions in the country. Diplomatic officials are urging the Nigerian government to review and reinforce its security commitments.

As the investigation continues, both nations are expected to coordinate closely to prevent similar breaches in the future.
