Holders Barcelona thrashed Athletic Club to reach the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia. The 15-time winners scored four goals in 16 minutes to put the game beyond doubt at half-time. That made Barcelona the first team in history to score four first-half goals in a Spanish Super Cup semi-final. Ferran Torres opened the scoring in the 22nd minute by finishing from close range, before Fermin Lopez hammered a shot into the top corner. Roony Bardghji’s fierce strike squirmed under the hands of Athletic Club goalkeeper Unai Simon, and Raphinha fired a shot into the roof of the net…
Erling Haaland returned to scoring form with his 150th Manchester City goal – but his side’s Premier League title challenge is falling apart, with Brighton holding them to a third consecutive draw. Pep Guardiola’s men have endured an underwhelming start to the year, with poor results and injuries to key players handing the initiative to Arsenal, who could go eight points clear at the top if they beat Liverpool on Thursday. Brighton were looking to capitalise on City’s makeshift backline and Pascal Gross found room to thump a header at goal, which was clawed out by Gianluigi Donnarumma, with the…
Manchester United were denied victory in their first game since the sacking of head coach Ruben Amorim as relegation-threatened Burnley fought back to claim only their third point in 12 games. The visitors were on track to claim a comeback victory when striker Benjamin Sesko doubled his tally for the season with two goals in a 10-minute spell at the start of the second half – both thanks to precise first-time finishes. Ayden Heaven’s own goal had put Burnley in front at the break, and just as it looked as though they were heading for yet another defeat after Sesko’s…
New Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior watched from the stands as Harry Wilson’s fine finish condemned his team to defeat against West London rivals Fulham at Craven Cottage. Rosenior was not appointed in time to take charge but took a watching brief and may have feared the worst when Marc Cucurella was sent off early on. Chelsea fell behind to Raul Jimenez’s header after 55 minutes, but Liam Delap levelled from four yards when the ball bounced back to him off the left post from a corner, after Antonee Robinson almost headed into his own net. With nine minutes remaining,…

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola was full of praise for Antoine Semenyo following his performance in the win over Tottenham Hotspur. The forward scored a late winner in a dramatic 3-2 win over Spurs on Wednesday night in what could be his last appearance for the Cherries. Semenyo is reportedly close to completing a move to Premier League champions Manchester City in the coming days following an agreement between the two teams. The Ghanaian came off to a resounding reception from the Bournemouth fans after scoring the winning goal and Iraola could only speak positive of the player. “I think he…
Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have emerged as the frontrunners to become Manchester United’s caretaker manager until the end of the season. The former players, who have both previously managed United, are set for face-to-face talks with the club’s leadership. It is not out of the question that the pair could also work together because Carrick was a significant part of Solskjaer’s coaching team when he replaced Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in 2018. Darren Fletcher, United’s current Under-18s coach, who has also been spoken to about the job, will continue as interim manager until a caretaker is appointed.…

A plot to kill Burkina Faso’s military leader, Capt. Ibrahim Traoré has been thwarted, the West African nation has announced. The sophisticated plan had been hatched by Lt Col Paul Henri Damiba, the military officer ousted by Traoré in September 2022, the security minister said in a late-night broadcast. “Our intelligence services intercepted this operation in the final hours. They had planned to assassinate the head of state and then strike other key institutions, including civilian personalities,” said Mahamadou Sana, further alleging that the plot had been funded from neighboring Ivory Coast. There has been no comment from either Col…
There have been widespread social media reports claiming that musician Black Sherif has been ordered by an Adentan court to pay GH¢229,500 in rent arrears.
