President John Dramani Mahama has held bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris, on the sidelines of the 2025 Paris Peace Forum.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between Ghana and France in areas of security, economic development, and regional stability.
President Macron, who welcomed the Ghanaian leader, began the meeting by expressing condolences to the people of Ghana over the passing of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.
President Mahama outlined Ghana’s current priorities, requesting French support in combating piracy in the country’s territorial waters and backing for a French concessionary loan intended to boost Ghana’s health sector, a facility that is currently before Parliament for approval.
He also appealed to President Macron to engage with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to help expedite Ghana’s access to funding from the French Development Bank (AFD), highlighting the country’s improved debt-to-GDP ratio as a sign of fiscal progress.
President Mahama’s meeting with President Macron formed part of his official engagements at the 2025 Paris Peace Forum, which brings together global leaders to discuss peace, climate action, and international cooperation.
