    The Nigerian media industry has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of 29-year old Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery at her Katampe residence in Abuja in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.

    Somtochukwu, fondly known as “Sommie”, was not only a respected broadcast journalist but also a trained lawyer and former beauty queen. Her elegance and poise caught the public’s eye in 2023 when she appeared in a wedding video that went viral online, earning her admiration from across Nigeria and beyond.

    At Arise News, she quickly rose to become one of the station’s standout personalities, celebrated for her sharp reporting, professionalism, and vibrant on-air presence.

    Her sudden passing has left family, friends, colleagues, and viewers in shock and deep grief. Tributes and condolences continue to pour in across social media, with many remembering her as a rising star whose life and career were cut tragically short.

    The police are yet to release full details of the incident, but investigations are said to be underway.
