The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has paid a courtesy visit to legendary highlife musician Agya Koo Nimo at his residence in Kumasi.

This visit forms part of President John Dramani Mahama’s ongoing initiative to uplift and honour elderly citizens who have played pivotal roles in shaping Ghana’s cultural and creative identity.

Speaking during the visit, Hon. Gomashie praised Agya Koo Nimo’s lifelong contribution to Ghanaian music, describing him as a “chief in the realm of Ghanaian culture.” She emphasized that the visit was more than symbolic—it was a gesture of national gratitude and responsibility.

“We are here not only to honour him but to remind ourselves of the shoulders we stand on,” the Minister noted.

The move comes after President Mahama’s directive at the launch of the Black Star Experience in May, where he called for a formal ceremony to celebrate Agya Koo Nimo’s impact on Ghanaian music and heritage.

To show appreciation, the Minister presented the legend with a hamper and an envelope to support musicians who performed in his honour.

In response, Agya Koo Nimo expressed heartfelt thanks to both the President and the Ministry, saying the honour wasn’t just personal—it represented all Ghanaian musicians. He used the opportunity to advocate for a national museum of creative arts and suggested playing Ghanaian music at tourist sites to showcase local talent and enhance the visitor experience.
