Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has publicly declared his deep admiration for rapper Medikal, naming him as his personal favorite, while acknowledging Sarkodie as the greatest Ghanaian rapper of all time.
Speaking in an interview with U.S.-based Ghanaian fashion critic Firestick, Shatta Wale praised both rappers, stating, “My favorite rapper is Medikal. His music speaks to the Gen Z crowd, but when it comes to the greatest of all time, that title belongs to Sarkodie.”
While recognizing Sarkodie’s legendary status, Shatta Wale stressed that Medikal is the future of Ghanaian rap. He believes that if Sarkodie were to retire, Medikal would naturally take over as the leader of the genre.
“Medikal will succeed Sarkodie hands down. The way he raps is what most of the young boys are trying to emulate. The truth is, people just don’t like to admit it,” Shatta added.
Shatta Wale also compared Medikal to international stars like Lil Baby and Central Cee, emphasizing that Medikal is on par with them but tailors his lyrics to fit the Ghanaian market.
“If Medikal didn’t rap to suit our market here, he wouldn’t survive. His skill level is comparable to Lil Baby and Central Cee,” he explained, addressing critics who downplay Medikal’s style.
Shatta Wale concluded by saying he values rappers who understand both artistry and the commercial side of the music business, praising Medikal’s ability to blend both effectively.
