A 38-year-old pastor, Wisdom Kwame Adu, also known as “Agya,” has been granted bail of GH¢150,000 with two sureties one of which must be backed by landed property for allegedly stealing from his deceased friend.
Pastor Adu is accused of taking personal belongings and valuables from the home of a close friend who had recently passed away. According to police reports, the incident happened shortly after the friend’s death, raising eyebrows among the family and community members.
The pastor was arrested after a formal complaint was filed by the late friend’s relatives, who claim Pastor Adu unlawfully entered the deceased’s residence and took several items without their knowledge or permission.
He appeared before the court earlier this week, where the prosecution outlined the allegations. The judge, considering the seriousness of the case, granted bail but attached strict conditions to ensure the accused remains available for future court proceedings.
The court has also ordered Pastor Adu to surrender his passport and report to the police station every two weeks until the case is concluded.
The matter has sparked discussions in the community, with many expressing shock over the allegations involving a man of the cloth. Others have called for a fair trial, reminding the public that the pastor remains innocent until proven guilty.
The case is expected to continue in court later this month as investigations proceed.
