M16 appoints their first female chief, this event now marks a major milestone in the M16 secret service. The secret service which has been around for 116 years just appointed Blaise Metrewelli a 47-year-old career intelligence officer in technology and innovation at M16. She joined M16 as a case officer in 1999 and has held various positions since then.
She was appointed by Prime Minister Kier Starmer to hold this position. The Chief is the only publicly named member of the M16 staff and reports directly to David Lammy the British Foreign secretary. M16 was formed in 1909 to collect overseas intelligence to understand overseas threats and opportunities for the UK.
This appointment is a great boost to feminism to inspire more women to pursue their dreams and goals. This helps break the gender inequality as well as gender roles that have been practiced for a time now. Just like in Africa Ghana they have the first Female Vice President and the US had their first female Vice president last year this will set a standard for future generations to come.
