Chairman Wontumi, whose real name is Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has boldly stated his intention to bring world-renowned football players Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., Vinicius Jr., and Cristiano Ronaldo to the Ghana Premier League.
The political figure and businessman stated his steadfast dedication to acquiring these elite players for Asante Kotoko prior to their retirement from professional football.
The regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti confidently declared on Wontumi Radio that he would do everything in his power to guarantee that these players end their careers with the Porcupine Warriors.
“I will pay Ronaldo, Messi, Neymar and Vini to come retire at Kotoko.”
Wontumi emphasized his resolve to make significant investments and use his connections to help Asante Kotoko regain its position as the leading team in African football.
Chairman Wontumi has not yet fulfilled his dream of purchasing Chelsea, an English Premier League team, which garnered him attention in 2022.
But he is still very much focused on Asante Kotoko’s future. Drawing inspiration from the successful tenure of former chairman Herbert Mensah, whose leadership significantly increased the team’s visibility and success on and off the field, he envisions a transformative era for the club.
I’m confident that I’ll be Kotoko’s chairman someday. And when I take over as chairman, I’ll use money and force to revive the team to its former glory under Herbert Mensah.
He reaffirmed his commitment to making other contributions to the club, even though he acknowledged that his political obligations with the NPP occasionally prevent him from serving as he would like.
I occasionally don’t serve as I should because of the NPP, but I still make contributions in other ways.
His ambitious plans demonstrate Wontumi’s intense love for Asante Kotoko and his ambition to take the team to new heights.
He wants to continue the legacy of Herbert Mensah, whose leadership brought the club back to life and garnered a lot of support.
I’ll apply all of that with a little pride because we all witnessed what Herbert did. Everyone will see the level I will raise Kotoko to. However, I will also state that it is not yet my turn, just as Jesus told Mary, “It is not yet my time.”
