Prince William made a heartfelt visit to New York City’s Ten House fire station as part of his two-day trip to the city. While his visit to the United Nations and focus on environmental issues were prominent during his tour, his stop at the firehouse underscored his commitment to the mental well-being of first responders.
Ten House, located near the World Trade Center, holds a poignant significance as six of its members lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Despite extensive damage, the firehouse served as a critical command center and recovery site in the aftermath of the attacks, taking two years to be fully rebuilt. Upon his arrival, Prince William viewed the FDNY Memorial Wall, which is featured on the building’s west façade.
During his visit, Prince William engaged with both new recruits and veteran firefighters, listening to their experiences and discussing the importance of prioritizing mental health for first responders. The royal displayed a keen interest in their work, asking questions and learning about their gear and procedures.
Prince William’s dedication to emergency workers has been notable, including interactions with care teams during the COVID-19 pandemic. Drawing from his own experiences as an air ambulance helicopter pilot and an RAF Search and Rescue pilot, he understands the challenges and emotional toll such roles can take.
Before leaving the fire station, Prince William received gifts for his children—Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. They were presented with small rubber fire trucks, pens, notebooks, and T-shirts from a stair climb event.
