    Sam George Warns Bawumia

Ningo-Prampram MP and Minister for Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has launched a scathing attack on NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over his condemnation of the violence that marred the recent parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency.

Reacting to Dr. Bawumia’s call for accountability and justice in the wake of the chaotic scenes at the polls, Sam George accused the former Vice-President of hypocrisy and selective outrage. According to him, Bawumia’s silence during past incidents involving political violence, notably the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, strips his current statements of credibility.

“You don’t get to find your voice six years later,” the minister said during a media interaction on Saturday. “When violence unfolded in Ayawaso West under your watch, with citizens brutalized in broad daylight, you said nothing. You can’t now pretend to be a champion of democracy.”

The Ablekuma North rerun, held on July 5, was marred by clashes that saw several individuals injured, including known party figures. Dr. Bawumia, addressing the issue, described the violence as a betrayal of Ghana’s democratic values and called on President Mahama to ensure swift justice.

But Sam George dismissed the remarks as politically convenient. He argued that Bawumia’s history of avoiding public comment during politically sensitive incidents speaks louder than his recent condemnation.

With tensions rising ahead of the 2026 elections, the exchange between the two political heavyweights has stirred debate about consistency in defending democratic values and the growing concern over electoral violence in Ghana.
