The Women’s Premier League match between Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC and FC Savannah Ladies on Sunday, January 18, 2026, was marred by violence after referee Lovia Boadiwaa Duodo was allegedly assaulted by supporters at Techiman Urban Park.

The incident unfolded immediately after the final whistle, with Duodo sustaining injuries as she was escorted from the pitch amid chaotic scenes. Video footage and eyewitness accounts showed fans invading the field and targeting match officials, while the unrest also left one FC Savannah Ladies player injured.

The alleged assault on Duodo, who was singled out during the disorder, has triggered widespread condemnation across the football community.

The incident has again highlighted serious security concerns for female referees in domestic football, particularly during high-tension matches, and renewed criticism of crowd control measures at league venues.

FC Savannah Ladies were leading 2-1 in stoppage time before Ampem Darkoa Ladies equalised in the 92nd minute and went on to score the winner in the fifth minute of added time.

The Ghana Football Association is yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
