A lady named Arianna Naomi Mackey said in a video uploaded online on Sunday that she was taken by three masked officers. According to her, the men disguised the vehicle’s registration number and wore no nametags. She further alleged that the authorities stole her mobile phone and camera and took $400 US from her.
In the footage, she said, “Last night, I was kidnapped and robbed by the police in Ghana. I was kidnapped by three masked police officers. They covered their number plate; they didn’t have name badges on. They completely covered their face, and as soon as they decided they wanted to take us, they took our phones and my camera, so I couldn’t record. I couldn’t contact anyone. I couldn’t even look up what was legal for the police to do.”
She continued by describing how she was allegedly brought to an ATM by the officers. I informed them that they were obviously unable to accompany me to the ATM. They still had my phone, my camera, and the person I was with when I went to tell the bank people that I wasn’t good. I went back to the car and gave them the $150 that I had taken out. I assume it’s over, but it’s obviously not. They are still attempting to push the other man into giving them more money. In the end, they received roughly $400.
The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has provided an update on its investigation of a viral video in which an American woman accused numerous Ghanaian police officers of kidnapping and extortion.
However, the CID stated in its conclusions that when detectives contacted Mackey to assist with the investigation, she informed them that she was no longer in Ghana. Police inspections confirmed that she left the nation on December 5, 2025, a fact supported by airport records.

On December 9, 2025, the Police Service issued a statement that read, “The police subsequently contacted the accused victim to help with the inquiry. She informed police that she was out of the country and could not obtain the identities of the alleged cops or the number plate of the vehicle they were driving.”
The CID further stated that attempts to contact Mackey’s companion in Ghana were useless because the acquaintance refused to cooperate with the investigation. According to the statement, “Police also requested the contact information of her friend in Ghana, who she claimed was with her at the time of the incident.” She did, however, say that her friend does not want to be engaged in the investigation.

They also stated that Mackey has removed the video from her social media profile and has not replied to follow-up communications. She reportedly blocked the CID team on WhatsApp. The post continued: “She has since deleted the video on her page and further efforts by the Investigators to contact her through WhatsApp calls and messages have proved unhelpful as she has declined to respond and later blocked the team.”
Despite these obstacles, the Ghana Police Service has stated that it will pursue the matter. It added that diplomatic channels are being used to seek Mackey’s participation: “Efforts are currently being made to secure her cooperation through proper diplomatic channels. The Ghana Police Service takes such allegations seriously and is committed to discovering the truth in this situation.”
