In a heartfelt message celebrating Ghana’s 69th Independence Day, King Charles III has conveyed his warm congratulations to President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana. The monarch emphasized the strong historical ties and lasting partnership between the UK and Ghana.

Marking Ghana’s Independence Day on March 6, 2026, King Charles III expressed joy and pride in the mutual values that underpin the relationship between the two nations. In his message directed to President Mahama, he stated, “On this important occasion, my wife and I extend our warmest congratulations to you and the people of the Republic of Ghana.”

The King highlighted how the ties between the two countries are founded on mutual respect and a shared commitment within the Commonwealth, a network of nations united by history and cooperative endeavors.

“Reflecting on our enduring partnership, I sincerely appreciate the shared values that define our Commonwealth,” he noted.

King Charles also referenced recent connections between the nations, including his brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to Accra in November last year. This visit underscored the warm hospitality of Ghanaians and the longstanding camaraderie shared between the two countries.

He expressed gratitude for the warm welcome received during the visit, echoing the Duke’s sentiment that the UK and Ghana share an extraordinary history and heritage.

Additionally, the monarch praised the significant contributions of the Ghanaian diaspora in the United Kingdom, acknowledging their role in strengthening ties. He noted that Ghanaians contribute across various sectors, including business, education, arts, and culture.

King Charles III highlighted the importance of unity within the Commonwealth in light of global challenges. “The richness of the Commonwealth’s diversity and the vigor of its younger generations provide tremendous hope and progress. Our collective strength and unity are more essential than ever,” he remarked.

Looking forward, King Charles expressed optimism regarding ongoing collaborations between Ghana and the UK, particularly with the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on the horizon. The two countries are currently engaged in various initiatives aimed at enhancing climate resilience in both urban and rural areas.

In closing, King Charles extended his wishes for peace and prosperity for Ghana in the year to come. “My wife and I join in offering our very best wishes to you and all Ghanaians for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead,” he concluded.
