Renowned filmmaker Tyler Perry is facing a $260 million lawsuit from actor Derek Dixon, who alleges a pattern of sexual harassment, assault, and career retaliation during his time working on Perry’s TV shows Ruthless and The Oval.
According to court filings, Dixon claims the misconduct began in late 2019, after meeting Perry at a studio event in Atlanta. He alleges Perry made an unwanted sexual advance at his home in January 2020 and later used promises of career advancement to pressure him into further interactions.
The lawsuit outlines a series of incidents, including explicit messages, inappropriate touching, and an alleged assault in June 2021, where Perry is accused of entering Dixon’s guest room, groping him, and coercing him with the words: “Relax and just let it happen.” Dixon claims he endured continued harassment until June 2024, when he filed a complaint with the EEOC and left The Oval, losing an estimated $400,000 in earnings.
Dixon’s suit accuses Perry and Tyler Perry Studios of quid pro quo harassment, sexual assault, and battery, seeking $260 million in damages.
Tyler Perry’s attorney, Matthew Boyd, has denied the allegations, calling them “completely fabricated” and driven by a “financially motivated scam.” Dixon’s legal team insists the claims are substantiated and will be pursued in court.
The case sets the stage for a high-profile legal battle that could significantly impact one of Hollywood’s most influential figures.
