A 45-year-old social media content creator has been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command for allegedly publishing false information about police officers on TikTok — content he later admitted he fabricated purely to drive views and engagement.
Isaac Boafo, popularly known online as “Duabo King,” was picked up by officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate (Ashanti Region) following a viral TikTok video in which he claimed four officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi had engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrol duties at Asafo.
During questioning, Boafo acknowledged that the claims, which went viral on the internet, were completely unfounded. “During interrogation, Isaac Boafo admitted to publishing the video and stated that he is a social media content creator who made the allegations solely to attract views and online engagement,” the Ashanti Regional Police Command said in a press release dated 1st March, 2026. “He further admitted that he could not substantiate the claims made against the officers.”
In addition to the police charges, Boafo stated that he had made unsubstantiated remarks about the President of the Republic again, he claimed, for the goal of creating content, and that he was unable to support those remarks. He has since been formally charged and detained to assist with ongoing investigations.
The case serves as the most recent illustration of the increasing conflict between the law and Ghana’s thriving social media culture. Although platforms such as TikTok have provided common Ghanaians with a potent public voice, authorities have made it clear that they would not stand for the exploitation of these platforms to incite fear or harm people’s reputations.
The Police used the occasion to issue a stern public warning. “Persons found engaging in such conduct will be dealt with in accordance with the law,” the statement, signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, read.
