Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, head of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba’s family, has issued a strong warning to journalists, bloggers, and media personalities, urging them to refrain from using insulting or disrespectful language when reporting on matters concerning him and the family.
Speaking to reporters after the Kumasi High Court dismissed an injunction application seeking to halt the final funeral rites of the celebrated musician, the Abusuapanyin expressed displeasure over the growing disrespect shown by some sections of the media.
“I’m not happy at all. Some of these young media people insult me every day because of this funeral matter. I can give birth to some of them, yet they speak without respect. They should stop insulting an old man who is the head of a family,” he said.
He stressed that the court’s decision affirms the family’s authority to continue with preparations for Daddy Lumba’s funeral, adding that the ruling had brought clarity and finality to the issue.
“The court has given me and my family the go-ahead to organize the funeral, and as it stands, no one can stop us. We will work together to give my brother a befitting burial,” he added.
Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu expressed appreciation to the court for upholding what he described as the family’s rightful role in the funeral arrangements. He also appealed to media practitioners to exercise decorum and professionalism in their reporting.
“I thank the court for its ruling. I want to remind the media that respect, and decency must guide their work, especially when dealing with family matters,” he emphasized.
The Kumasi High Court on Monday dismissed an injunction filed by Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, who had sought to halt the funeral on the grounds that she was the musician’s legal wife. The court’s decision clears the way for the Lumba family to proceed with the final rites, scheduled to take place on December 6, 2025, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
