Trevor Siemian holds a career record of 13 wins and 17 losses, with 42 touchdowns and 28 interceptions. He was the full-time starter for the Denver Broncos in 2016 and 2017 but has primarily served as a backup since then. His last start resulted in a win in 2017, and he has since faced six consecutive losses, including a short-lived stint with the Jets in 2019, which was cut short due to an ankle injury.
The New York Jets, under increasing pressure to address their quarterback situation, have signed veteran free agent Trevor Siemian to their practice squad. Siemian, aged 31, was released by the Cincinnati Bengals during the preseason. He now joins Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle in the Jets’ quarterback room. This move comes following a series of subpar performances by Wilson, although coach Robert Saleh has expressed his confidence in the young quarterback.
Despite the signing of Siemian, Saleh announced that Wilson will continue to start for the Jets in their upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Siemian’s addition to the squad provides the Jets with a quarterback who has experience as a starter, offering an alternative option if Wilson continues to struggle.

In a related development, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick recently penned a letter to Jets general manager Joe Douglas dated September 21, expressing his desire for the team to consider signing him to the practice squad. Rapper J Cole shared this letter on his Instagram account. Kaepernick has remained without an NFL contract since 2016 when he began protesting racial inequality during the national anthem.
The Jets, who currently hold a 1-2 record, have faced challenges at the quarterback position due to an injury to Aaron Rodgers, who suffered an Achilles tear on the fourth play of the season. While Wilson managed to secure an overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills in a relief appearance, the team’s offense has struggled to produce touchdowns with him as the starting quarterback, managing only three touchdowns in nearly three full games.

In the preseason with the Cincinnati Bengals, Siemian competed for the backup quarterback role but ultimately lost to Jake Browning. Despite getting significant playing time during the preseason, Siemian completed 36 of 65 passes for 316 yards, recording no touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Jets have explored various quarterback options since Rodgers’ injury, including Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, and Chad Henne. They expressed interest in Henne, who previously played under Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett in Jacksonville, but Henne declined. The Jets also reportedly turned down offers from Wentz and Ryan.
