President John Dramani Mahama has appointed celebrated Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe as Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain. The announcement, made on June 21, 2025, was confirmed in an official statement signed by the Secretary to the President, Callistus Mahama.

Sinare is among 15 newly nominated diplomats, including ambassadors, high commissioners, and a consul-general, tasked with representing Ghana’s global interests. The appointments aim to strengthen Ghana’s bilateral relationships, especially across Europe, Africa, and Asia.

Widely known for her outstanding roles in films like Out of Sight, Crossfire, Ties That Bind, and Trinity, Kalsoume Sinare is a respected figure in Ghana’s creative industry. Her career spans television, stage, and film, earning her numerous awards including honours from the Ghana Movie Awards and the Golden Movie Awards Africa.

Beyond her contributions to film, Sinare is a strong advocate for women’s empowerment, youth development, and the advancement of the creative arts. She holds a diploma in Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana and furthered her education with a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, as well as a degree in Public Service and Governance from GIMPA.

Her appointment is seen as a strategic move to boost Ghana’s cultural and economic ties with Spain, focusing on key sectors such as trade, tourism, renewable energy, and migration management.

Other high-profile diplomatic nominees include businessman Benjamin A. Quashie as High Commissioner to South Africa, former Kumasi mayor Kojo Bonsu as Ambassador to China, and former KNUST Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso as Ambassador to India. All appointees will undergo parliamentary vetting before officially assuming their posts.

Kalsoume Sinare’s transition from the arts to diplomacy reflects President Mahama’s continued effort to bring influential figures from diverse fields into national leadership roles.
