The Ghana Police Service is expressing confidence in its security measures for the Ayawaso East by-election, affirming that the current deployment is adequate to manage any potential issues as voting moves towards its conclusion.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs, provided this assurance following the closure of polls on March 3. She emphasized that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) was actively monitoring the election on-site to ensure that all security protocols were functioning effectively.

“The IGP personally takes to the ground to ensure that the security measures in place are operational,” she explained.

DCOP Ansah-Akrofi highlighted that the IGP, alongside the Regional Commander and Operations Officers, had visited all 114 polling centers and found the voting process to be calm and orderly.

She described the by-election as one of the most peaceful the nation has experienced. “So far, everything has proceeded very smoothly. We have not recorded any incidents, and we are pleased,” she stated.

As the polls closed and vote collation began, she assured that security at the collation center was robust. “Our deployment at the collation center is sufficient to address any unforeseen circumstances,” she added.

DCOP Ansah-Akrofi credited the peaceful proceedings to effective security planning and the collaboration of stakeholders, including political actors and voters within the constituency. She commended the residents of Ayawaso East for their responsible conduct and urged the populace to continue practicing peaceful democratic principles.

“As we continue to develop our electoral processes, we hope everyone understands that elections should focus on voting and peaceful choices, rather than conflict,” she remarked.
