The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with the shocking murder of Stephen King Amoah, an officer with the Ghana Immigration Service whose charred remains were discovered in a gutter on Tuesday, July 9.
The suspect, identified as Bright Aveh, is currently in police custody assisting with investigations. His arrest marks the first major development in the high-profile case, which has sent shockwaves across the capital and within the security services.
According to police sources, Amoah’s burnt body was found near the GBC Satellite area, directly opposite Comet Estate in Accra. Preliminary reports suggest the officer may have been killed elsewhere before his body was set ablaze and dumped in the gutter under the cover of darkness.
Residents in the area reported a foul smell and smoke early Tuesday morning, which led to the grisly discovery. Officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) quickly cordoned off the scene and began forensic assessments, including DNA analysis and the retrieval of CCTV footage from nearby buildings.
The motive for the killing remains unclear, but authorities believe it may be linked to Amoah’s professional role. Police say additional arrests may follow as the investigation deepens.
In a statement, the Ghana Immigration Service expressed sorrow over the death of their colleague and called for swift justice.
The public has been urged to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation as the police intensify efforts to uncover the full circumstances behind the crime.
