No grudge against Spurs – Arsenal icon says he doesn’t wish Tottenham relegated

Arsenal icon Ian Wright has stirred the football community by expressing his unexpected stance on Tottenham Hotspur. Contrary to the traditional animosity between the two North London clubs, Wright has revealed he does not wish to see Tottenham relegated from the Premier League. As Arsenal pursues the title, Spurs find themselves in a precarious battle to avoid relegation, with interim manager Igor Tudor struggling to stabilize the team after a consistent decline in form.

Tottenham recently faced mounting pressure following West Ham’s win over Fulham and Nottingham Forest’s draw with Manchester City. Currently, Spurs sit just one point above the relegation zone. With a critical match against Crystal Palace looming, the urgency for Tottenham to secure their spot in the topflight has intensified, highlighting the threat of dropping down to the Championship.

During a recent appearance on The Overlap podcast, Wright commented on the prevailing narrative surrounding the Spurs’ possible relegation. “I wouldn’t want to see Tottenham go down. In this moment right now, I watched them the other day, absolutely, they could. But I wouldn’t like to see it,” he said. Wright’s fond memories of Tottenham’s Glenn Hoddle from his youth reflect a more nuanced view of the rivalry, as he emphasizes that he has never harbored a hatred towards Spurs.

Tottenham’s challenges have been compounded by organizational turmoil. The departure of chairman Daniel Levy in September failed to lift the mood of frustrated fans. Recruitment efforts have also drawn criticism, with only Conor Gallagher and Brazilian talent Souza joining the squad in January.

Wright believes that for the Spurs to compete with clubs like Arsenal and Manchester City genuinely, a significant change is essential. He expressed that the departure of Levy has only illuminated deeper issues under the ownership of the Lewis family. “Now that Daniel Levy’s gone, they can’t blame him. It’s the Lewis family. They’ve got to change the ownership,” Wright asserted, suggesting that a more ambitious owner is necessary for Tottenham to regain its competitive edge.

As the situation unfolds, fans across the Premier League will keenly watch how both Arsenal and Tottenham aim for glory, and Tottenham fight to maintain their top-flight status.
