The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has recovered GH¢1.6 million in outstanding electricity bills from customers in the Sunyani Area on the first day of a two-week revenue mobilization and loss control exercise.

Mr. Eugene Odoi Addo, the Sunyani Area Manager of NEDCo, confirmed the recovery during a press briefing on Tuesday. He described the exercise as a necessary move to curb growing debts and strengthen the company’s financial stability.

According to Mr. Addo, the operation involves a series of field visits to homes, businesses, and institutions with long-standing unpaid bills. He noted that the GH¢1.6 million recovery reflects the high level of indebtedness among consumers and NEDCo’s commitment to improving service delivery by reducing losses.

“The success of this first day is a clear signal that our approach is working,” he said. “We are not just collecting debts we’re also engaging with customers to educate them on responsible consumption and the importance of paying bills promptly.”

He added that the campaign is also targeting illegal connections, meter bypasses, and other forms of power theft, all of which contribute to the utility’s revenue shortfalls.

NEDCo is urging customers to settle their bills to avoid disconnection and legal action. The company says it will continue to intensify monitoring and enforcement across the region in the coming days.

The Sunyani operation is part of a wider effort across NEDCo’s operational zones to recover millions in unpaid bills and ensure the sustainability of power supply to its consumers.
